| Tokyo -- Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and NTT DoCoMo, Inc. have reached a basic agreement to jointly study development of new 'telematics' services - ie car multimedia services. |
| The two companies aim to create through a fusion of their respective technological strengths a new world of communications to support safe and comfortable 'car life,' anywhere and anytime. |
| Nissan brings to this project its vehicle and human-machine interface (HMI) technologies, along with its expertise in information services for automotive applications accumulated through its current telematics service operations. NTT DoCoMo, on its part, brings its mobile communication infrastructure and technologies as well as its expertise in mobile multimedia services that it has built through the operation of various content services. These NTT DoCoMo services are typified by its i-mode cellular phone and mobile Internet services. |
| Under the agreement, the two companies will conduct detailed study of possibilities of the various services and work to develop new systems and services that can become an industry standard for widespread use by many other market participants. |
