NTT DoCoMo Issues Advisory for Mova R211i Mobile Phone

Products & Services
TOKYO, JAPAN, April 26, 2002 --- NTT DoCoMo, Inc. today announced a technical problem with its Mova R211i mobile phone. Sales of this model have been suspended from today, April 26, 2002, until the problem is fixed.

Due to a software bug, the incoming and outgoing call logs, voice messages and voice memos are erased when the phone's power is turned off after replaying a new voice message. The problem occurs if the phone's power is shut off manually, automatically or due to a depleted battery.

Voice messages, a feature of DoCoMo phones, are messages left by incoming callers. Unlike voice mails, which are stored on DoCoMo's message server, voice messages are automatically sent to and stored in the phone itself.

Voice memos are recordings of telephone conversations or messages to oneself.

Other data, such as stored numbers, i-mode mail and downloaded data, are not affected. In addition, the phone's i-mode and voice functions work normally, without problem.

DoCoMo today issued an advisory in regard to the problem via its website and portal site. Users of the affected phones will be notified via direct mail when new replacement phones are ready. DoCoMo will provide the replacements free of charge. Approximately 7,400 Mova R211i mobile phones are currently in circulation. DoCoMo Shikoku does not market the Mova R211i.

i-mode is a trademark or registered trademark of NTT DoCoMo, Inc. in Japan and other countries.
