R&D
TOKYO, JAPAN, April 25, 2002 --- NTT DoCoMo, Inc. announced today that it will begin licensing patents for its proprietary W-CDMA technology, on which , the world's first third-generation (3G) wireless service, is based.

As global telecommunications operators gear up for launch of 3G mobile communications services, DoCoMo is envisioning extensive use of its IMT-2000 compliant W-CDMA system. To encourage worldwide implementation, DoCoMo will offer essential patents at reasonable and non-exclusive terms.

Patents will be licensed to manufacturers which supply 3G products to mobile communications operators. Widespread adoption of W-CDMA technology is expected to reduce procurement and production costs, which will contribute to lowering fees for service and products.
