TOKYO, JAPAN, April 18, 2002 --- NTT DoCoMo, Inc. announced today that a 1,000-yen "DoCoMo TELECA MOBILER'S CHECK" prepaid card featuring an official poster of the 2002 FIFA World CupTM will be sold at DoCoMo branch offices and authorized DoCoMo shops beginning April 25.
DoCoMo expects the card to enjoy popularity as a commemorative gift during the upcoming FIFA World Cup, which is being co-hosted by Korea and Japan.
DoCoMo TELECA MOBILER'S CHECK cards are sold in 3,000-yen, 1,000-yen, and 500-yen versions. The official World Cup design will appear on the 1,000-yen version only.
The prepaid cards are used for DoCoMo cellular and satellite phone services including DoccimoTM, packet dual-mode and international calls. DoCoMo first introduced the prepaid cards on December 1, 2000.
Users dial 1400 on their mobile phone and enter a 14-digit number that appears on the back of the card. The prepaid amount is deducted from the following month's bill. The card is made of environmentally friendly biodegradable grain starch.
DoCoMo will issue the World Cup commemorative card in cooperation with MasterCard International Incorporated. MasterCard is the official credit card of the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
