NTT DoCoMo to Introduce Third Model in Advanced Camera-Equipped i-mode Phone Series

Products & Services
TOKYO, JAPAN, December 26, 2002 --- NTT DoCoMo, Inc. announced today that the company will begin marketing a new i-shot™ compatible handset, the F504iS with dual cameras, from December 27, 2002. The F504iS is third in the 504iS series DoCoMo launched in November to meet the growing Japanese market demand for camera-equipped phones.

This highly advanced PDC-based series offers packet data transmission speeds of up to 28.8 Kbps, infrared communications and i-ppli™ capability. Photos can be sent via i-shot, DoCoMo's proprietary service that allows users to transmit still images taken with compatible phones having built-in digital cameras.

The new F504iS features two built-in 110,000-pixel CCD cameras. The inner camera located on the main display lets users take self-portrait shots, while the external camera on the backside of the phone allows scenic or group photos. Users can easily switch between cameras with the simple touch of a button.

Both cameras feature photo lights available in 12 colors for taking creative pictures in dimly lit places. The handset's 2.1 inch 65,536 TFT color main display can be used as a viewfinder for both cameras.

The F504iS is also capable of recording and storing up to six minutes' worth of audio video in one clip, for an accumulative total of 30 minutes. Still photos from video clips can be extracted and sent via i-shot or saved as screensavers.

A variety of other editing functions let users produce imaginative photos. Background frames can be downloaded from dedicated i-mode sites and superimposed with still images. The handset can save up to 1,000 still photos, which can be automatically set to change every 30 or 60 minutes as screensavers. In addition, i-ppli frames can be downloaded and combined with still shots to create original screensavers.

Incorporation of an infrared communications port enables photos to be exchanged via i-shot with other 504iS phone users.

The handset's "privacy mode" lets users store such important information as still pictures, mail and phone numbers in a private folder. Any data stored in the folder will not be displayed when the privacy mode is activated.

The F504iS will be available through all DoCoMo sales channels. The price of the phone will be open (unfixed), while its standard accessory kit, including battery pack, AC adapter and desktop holder, will cost 6,400 yen.

Launched on June 1, 2002, DoCoMo's i-shot service has proved popular with the Japanese market. Sales of i-shot handsets have topped the four million mark some six months after service introduction.
