TOKYO, JAPAN, December 20, 2002 --- NTT DoCoMo, Inc. announced today that sales of i-shot™ handsets have topped the 4 million mark, some six months after DoCoMo's i-shot service was introduced. i-shot allows subscribers to transmit still images taken with compatible mobile phones having built-in digital cameras to virtually any device capable of receiving
e-mail.
Launched on June 1, 2002, the service has proved a major hit with the Japanese market.
Given the tremendous popularity of the service, DoCoMo introduced its new camera-equipped 504iS series on November 12. This highly advanced series of mobile phones offers a wide variety of features, including customization of still images using downloaded i-appli™ frames to create original screensavers.
Following the successful launch of this series, i-shot sales began accelerating at a rapid pace, reaching 4 million just three weeks after topping the 3 million mark.
Currently, there are seven models available on the market.
