TOKYO, JAPAN, November 21, 2002 --- NTT DoCoMo, Inc. and its eight regional subsidiaries announced today a new billing plan, named "Limitplus", under which outgoing calls and all data communications are automatically blocked once monthly phone charges reach a pre-set limit. The billing plan will be available nationwide from December 1, 2002.
DoCoMo expects the billing plan to gain popularity among companies/families that want to limit monthly charges on mobile phones used by employees/children, as well as individuals who feel more comfortable setting a limit on their monthly phone usage.
Limits on monthly usage can be pre-set to 3,000 yen, 5,000 yen or 7,000 yen (includes the value of free calls bundled with the plan). At anytime, however, a password can be used to raise the limit in 1,000 yen increments up to 9,000 yen. Once total monthly charges reach the limit, outgoing calls and all data communication (both transmissions and downloads) are automatically blocked starting the next day. Users can still receive incoming voice calls and place emergency calls to numbers such as 110, 118 and 119, or to call 1416 to check their voice messages.
The plan's basic monthly fee of 4,300 yen includes bundled free calls equivalent to 2,200 yen. The basic monthly fee can be reduced up to 35% with optional discounts. The call charge is 20 yen per 30 seconds (calls to PHS, maritime and in-flight phones are double the charges listed in Plan A).
The plan is available for PDC-based (800 MHz) digital phones except pre-paid phones.
Applications will be accepted from December 1 at all DoCoMo branch offices and DoCoMo shops, or by calling 0120-005250 (toll free).
In line with official requirements, DoCoMo today notified the Ministry of Public Management, Home Affairs, and Posts and Telecommunications of the new plan.
