NTT DoCoMo to Introduce New Ringing Tone in Fight Against Phone Scams

TOKYO, JAPAN, September 25, 2002 --- NTT DoCoMo, Inc. and its eight regional companies said today that they will offer a new ringing tone for selected handsets as part of ongoing anti-scam countermeasures DoCoMo announced on August 29, 2002. Available from September 26, 2002, the tone remains silent for a few moments at the beginning of an incoming call. This function is expected to effectively combat companies that call mobile phones and then hang up after one ring in a scam to solicit business.

The tone will be offered for PHS browserphonesTM(including SH712m and P751v) and handsets (excluding the 501i series and NM502i phone), and can be downloaded (transmission charge applies) from DoCoMo sites. Users may choose from 2-, 4- or 6-second silent ringing pattern.
