TOKYO, JAPAN, September 24, 2002 --- NTT DoCoMo, Inc. announced today that the company will soon launch a new service, dubbed DQUICKTM, to enable users to take part in live, interactive programs on television and radio, and also enable web surfers to input simple numeric codes in place of URLs for webpages.
Starting October 1, the "Interactive Program Service" will enable
users to interactively participate in live quiz shows and other programs that invite responses from viewers. While enjoying a program on television or radio, for example, they will be able to use their i-mode mobile phones to go to the DQUICK site (http://dquick.jp), access the program's special interactive page and then respond to questions posed by the program.
In addition to the strong entertainment value of the service, broadcasters will be able to obtain basic demographic information about their interactive viewers, such as age, gender and general location, for marketing purposes. One-time registration of the basic demographic information will be required before DQUICK users can take part in interactive programming.
Beginning November 19, DQUICK will also offer the "D-code Service," which will allow i-mode, PC, PDA and other users to access webpages simply by inputting 3- to 10-digit numbers, called "D-codes," in place of more complicated alphanumeric URLs. D-codes, because of their simplicity, are expected to enjoy popularity as a tool for web-based marketing.
