Tokyo, Japan, August 31, 2001 -- NTT DoCoMo, Inc. announced today that it will participate in PCIA GlobalXChange2001, a next generation telecommunication and Internet technology exhibition to be held at Los Angeles Convention Center from September 11 to 13, 2001. This is the first time for DoCoMo to participate in such an event in the United States.

The event is organized each year by PCIA (Personal Communications Industry Association). Last year's exhibition drew more than 18,000 visitors and about 600 exhibitors from 78 different countries. A number of conferences will be held this year focusing on cutting-edge topics from the telecommunications and Internet industries.

Mr. Yoshinori Uda, a Senior Executive Vice President of NTT DoCoMo, will deliver a keynote speech titled "The Remote Control For Life" on the second day of the conference (Sept. 12, Level 1 of the Concourse Hall from 9:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.).

The NTT DoCoMo booth will be located in SOUTH EXHIBIT HALL, 1647 and cover an area of 225 square meters. The company's exhibits will include its popular i-mode mobile Internet service as well as i appli, an advanced version of i-mode that incorporates Sun Microystem's JAVA technology. A variety of content for i-mode and a line-up of i-mode handsets will be exhibited. In addition, visitors will be able to take part in a hands-on demonstration of i appli.

NTT DoCoMo will also introduce its third-generation mobile communications system, dubbed FOMA (Freedom Of Mobile multimedia Access), which is based on W-CDMA technology. DoCoMo launched FOMA service on an introductory basis in Japan on May 30 this year.

At a corner of its booth devoted to FOMA, DoCoMo will introduce mock FOMA handsets and related service applications. Visitors will be able to see a demonstration of two-way moving picture transmission between PDAs over a virtual FOMA network.

NTT DoCoMo's music and video content distribution services and outline of NTT DoCoMo's Research and Development activities will also be introduced at the booth.

PCIA GlobalXChange2001 kicks off on Sept. 11 at 8:30 a.m. Conferences only will be held on the first day of the event, which will conclude at 17:30. On the 12th and 13th, the exhibition floor will be open from 10:00 to 18:00, while various conferences will be held from 9:30 to 16:30.
