TOKYO, JAPAN, November 26, 2001---NTT DoCoMo, Inc. announced today that a software glitch has been discovered in about 1,500 units of the FOMA N2002, a third-generation (3G) mobile phone model.
The phone becomes frozen when accessing a small number of websites incorporating certain site-construction specifications. The following data is erased:
Stored i-mode mail
Stored data for i appli
Various settings
Details regarding incoming and outgoing calls
Voice communications and other functions, including the phone's telephone directory, as well as downloaded i-motion data, ring melody and screen, are not affected.
Once the company is ready to replace the handsets, users will be able to exchange their existing handsets for new ones at any NTT DoCoMo branch offices and affiliated NTT DoCoMo retail shops called "DoCoMo Shop" from December 1, 2001.
Sales of the FOMA N2002 model were suspended today. NTT DoCoMo will resume them on December 1, 2001.
