TOKYO, JAPAN May 16, 2001- NTT DoCoMo, Inc. will acquire an additional 6.37% stake in Hong Kong cellular phone company Hutchison Telephone Company Limited (HTCL), according to an agreement signed by NTT DoCoMo and HTCL's parent firm, Hutchison Whampoa Limited. The additional investment, which amounts to US$ 30.44 million, raises NTT DoCoMo's total stake in HTCL to 25.37%.

Following completion of the investment, NTT DoCoMo will appoint one more board member to HTCL. NTT DoCoMo is strengthening its relationship with Hutchison Whampoa and HTCL in order to realize the early deployment of mobile multimedia services in Hong Kong.
