NTT DoCoMo, Walt Disney Internet Group (Japan) Sign MoU Regarding

TOKYO, JAPAN, March 29, 2001 --- NTT DoCoMo, Inc. and Walt Disney Internet Group (Japan) today signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop and market a mobile service for the overseas market that provides access to Disney content, including its famous animated characters, via cellular phone. Walt Disney Internet Group (Japan) is a mobile content business arm of Walt Disney International Japan, a Japanese subsidiary of Walt Disney Company of the United States.

While similar services are now offered to i-mode users in Japan, both firms, in cooperation with the Internet division of Walt Disney's worldwide network, will develop new content specially suited for foreign markets. Such content will be distributed via i-mode-like multimedia services to be offered by DoCoMo's overseas affiliated companies as well as member operators of Mobile Multimedia Joint Venture (MMJV), a consortium to be established by NTT DoCoMo and its partner companies in overseas.

NTT DoCoMo is Japan's largest mobile communications operator, with over 34 million subscribers. It had consolidated operating revenue of 3.7 trillion yen (approximately US$34.7 billion) in fiscal 1999 (year ended 31 March 2000). In February 1999 NTT DoCoMo launched its i-mode service, which provides continuous connection with the Internet via mobile phones. The number of subscribers to the service exceeded 21 million by February 2001. NTT DoCoMo plans to introduce third-generation mobile communications services based on its W-CDMA system in May 2001.
