TOKYO, JAPAN, February 28, 2001 --NTT DoCoMo, Inc. (NTT DoCoMo) today applied to the Minister of Public Management, Home Affairs, Post and Telecommunications for permission to launch a PUSH-type new information distribution service via i-mode handsets.
NTT DoCoMo will distribute advertisements as well as information regarding events and promotional campaigns to i-mode customers via e-mail. Receipt of the free information is optional and customers can sign up for it via the "Message Free" screen on their handsets. The "Message Free" screen can be accessed by selecting the "i-mode menu" and then "options."
NTT DoCoMo intends to start the nationwide service as early as next month. The maximum length of any given message will be approximately 80 characters.
The time and frequency of message distribution will be set according to customer demand.
