The CommunicAsia is one of the biggest Network-Internet related exhibitions in South East Asia. Last year, 886 companies from 39 countries participated in the exhibition. This year, the event is expected to draw more than 30,000 visitors. This is the 3rd time for DoCoMo to take part in the exhibition.
At its booth, NTT DoCoMo will introduce Internet-compatible cellular phone service, "i-mode", which has nearly 6.9 million customers in Japan. Visitors can enjoy demonstrations of the various contents of the current i-mode service as well as a future i-mode phone, which features JAVA software. An i-mode compatible car navigation system will also be on display. There will also be a short presentation on i-mode at the stand.
The company will also show service applications of the next-generation mobile communications system, W-CDMA. At the booth, two-way moving picture transmission between visual phones or PDAs using W-CDMA will be demonstrated. NTT DoCoMo is planning to commercialize the system in the spring of next year in Japan. Conceptual models of W-CDMA terminals will also be exhibited.
Visitors to the DoCoMo stand will also be able to see either the actual terminals or panels which explain other domestic services or applications, including PHS phones, PDC/PHS dual-mode terminals, pagers, various kinds of PDAs, packet data communications services, satellite mobile communications services, location services, Mobile Media Distribution Service for distributing musical contents, etc.
On June 8, Mr. Takeshi Natsuno, Executive Director of NTT DoCoMo's Gateway Business Department, will speak at the MobileCommunicAsia 2000 Specialist Conference titled "Driving Mobility in Commerce & Communications." Natsuno will participate in two programs. From 11:15-12:30, he will attend a panel discussion titled "Putting Theory into Practice-Mobile Data and e-Commerce Strategies," and from 16:45-17:15, he will make his presentation titled "i-mode: The New Information Infrastructure for the Next Century."
