IrDA

Infrared Data Association. An organization that standardizes communication between information devices by means of infrared. Also refers to the standard set by that organization. The medium is infrared, so communication is not possible when obstacles are present, but it features a simple structure that is easily miniaturized, so it is often used for mobile phones. The range is from several tens of centimeters to about one meter and the data transfer speed is from 115.2 kbps to 4 Mbps. An extension of this specification for high-speed communication is IrSimple.
