Presenting Japan’s cutting-edge services
Featuring Japan’s cutting-edge mobile phone services and handsets, the DOCOMO booth maintained a steady and bustling stream of visitors.
"Osaifu-Keitai" mobile wallet services and Latest Services Corners drew the most attention. In the "Osaifu-Keitai" mobile wallet services Corner, concrete examples of mobile phone use were presented, including the use of the Osaifu-Keitai to make payment while shopping, as a house key, and as a ticket when going through automated ticket gates. Even in China, the use of contactless IC cards has begun to spread in urban areas, primarily in relation to public transportation. Due in part to the fact that services using mobile phones are now being offered in some cities, visitors showed a keen interest in the Osaifu-Keitai, which is already in routine use in Japan.
The Latest Services Corner displayed services such as the distribution of music, video contents, and games as well as a health management service provided through the Raku-Raku phone. Visitors were amazed at the latest development in Japan’s mobile phone industry, including stress-free downloading of multimedia files through the use of high-speed 3G/HSDPA lines, smooth playback of video contents on terminals equipped with large displays such as wide VGA screens, and games that rival the powerful performance of portable games.
Long-Term Evolution (LTE) initiatives and the launch of business in China were also introduced. As the full-scale spread of 3G services in China is about to begin, Chinese visitors seemed keenly interested in Japan, a 3G pioneer, as a vision of what the future holds for them as well.
With the latest Japanese innovations before them, many visitors were once again impressed by Japan’s technological prowess. In particular, hopes run high for the introduction of the latest Japanese mobile phone handset, which was displayed in the booth, to the Chinese market.
