Mobile Phone Safety Program
DOCOMO dispatches instructors to conduct Mobile Phone Safety Classes, where schoolchildren have been learning responsible use of mobile phones and measures to avoid trouble since 2004.
Using materials prepared separately for elementary, middle and high school, the instructors teach students about basic phone manners and how spam mail works. Materials for parents and teachers explain what to be aware of when children use mobile phones.
Safety classes are also conducted in collaboration with police stations to provide the public with increased awareness of problems such as illegal activities carried out with mobile phones.
International Contributions
Schools in Thailand
Children in some regions of Thailand sometimes must attend school outdoors due to a shortage of classrooms. To provide these children with better environments for learning, DOCOMO has been helping to build schools in cooperation with the Asian Women and Children Network since 1998. The company's tenth school, featuring four classrooms and a meeting hall, was completed in 2007.
(PRODUCT) RED™ Initiative
To support the fight against HIV/AIDS in Africa, the NTT DOCOMO Group released its M702iS(RED) mobile phone on April 27, 2007. Under the (PRODUCT) RED program, DOCOMO contributes 1% of all monthly charges incurred by M702iS (RED) users to the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Contributions between April and September 2007 covered continuous treatment for over 700 people for a full year, additional contributions will continue through March 2008.
What is (PRODUCT) RED?
The Product Red system was created to provide a money stream from private businesses to the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. It was established in January 2006 by Bono, lead singer of the popular rock band U2, and Bobby Shriver, chairman of the advocacy organization DATA (Debt, AIDS, Trade, Africa), to raise money through (PRODUCT) RED brand products developed and sold by major companies worldwide.
Other Outreach Activities
Raku-Raku Mobile Phone Class
DOCOMO branch offices and shops have been conducting the Raku-Raku Mobile Phone Class to teach senior citizens how to use their mobile phones more effectively since 2000. Employees provide seniors with free instruction on the use of mobile phone features and the mobile Internet service i-mode. As a result, many more senior citizens are now experiencing the fun and convenience of mobile communication.
Mobile Communication Fund
The Mobile Communication Fund is a nonprofit organization that contributes to society through numerous initiatives. Established in July 2002 to commemorate DOCOMO's tenth anniversary, the fund helps, for example, to deepen international friendships by sponsoring 20 Asian students studying in Japan each year.
